Why You Should Visit Mount Abu?
Mount Abu is a hidden gem, often overlooked in favor of more popular destinations like Agra, Jaipur, and Udaipur. However, this serene hill station has so much to offer and is the perfect place for those looking to slow down and be present in breathtaking nature and scenery.
For me, the journey to Mount Abu was motivated by a deep personal connection. Home to the headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris organisation, a spiritual movement cherished by my late grandparents, visiting this region held special significance for my sisters and me. If you're interested, you can learn more about the Brahma Kumaris movement here.
However, Mount Abu offers something for everyone, regardless of whether you are spiritually inclined or not. I arrived curious, with few expectations, but left pleasantly surprised and in awe of its natural beauty, serene temples, and the peaceful tranquility of the surrounding areas.
Where is Mount Abu?
Mount Abu is located in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan, near the Gujarat border. It stands as the only hill station in Rajasthan, making it a unique retreat from the state’s otherwise arid climate.
How to Reach Mount Abu?
The best way to reach Mount Abu is by private car. I highly recommend hiring a private driver to get to Mount Abu. It is approximately three hours from Udaipur, making a road trip the most convenient option. While there is a train station, getting around without private transport can be challenging.
1. Brahma Kumaris Tapovan Farm
Located in the lower region of Mount Abu, this beautiful farm is filled with lush vegetation and endless produce. As you roam around the farm, you’ll encounter numerous patches dedicated to growing a variety of fruits, vegetables, and spices. We were lucky to visit during orange season, and the chance to fill our bags with hand-picked oranges was a particular delight.
2. Nakki Lake
Located in the heart of Mount Abu, this picturesque lake is renowned for its natural beauty. Whether you prefer to relax by the lakeside and admire the views or engage in the various boating activities available, Nakki Lake will provide you with the ideal setting to unwind, relax, and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
We spent some time here basking, in the sun and indulging sweets such as falooda and kulfi by the lake!

3. Dilwara Jain Temple
Now, this temple is a hidden gem, and probably my favourite temple of all the ones we visited. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, the temple complex consists of five beautifully carved shrines devoted to Jain Tirthankaras (saints). I found its intricate details even more mesmerising than the Taj Mahal! Something that can only be fully appreciated when experienced in person!
Opening times: 12 PM - 5 PM
Cost: Free
Open: Daily
Photography: No electronics allowed inside

4.Guru Shikhar, Mount Abu
Guru Shikhar is the highest peak in the Aravalli range of Rajasthan and is a must-visit! It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. As you ascend to the peak, you will pass the sacred temple dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. I highly recommend visiting during sunset to enjoy and absorb the serene atmosphere and views.

5. India One Solar Power Plant
Our stop at the India One Solar Thermal Power Plant was educational and interesting. This fascinating solar thermal power plant is part of India's ambitious renewable energy efforts. As you approach, you will see the huge circular mirrors used to concentrate a large area of sunlight. The sunlight is used to heat a transfer fluid (typically oil) within the receiver, which then transfers its heat to water to produce steam. The steam is then used to drive a turbine, which is connected to a generator to produce electricity. If you’re interested in sustainable energy, this stop is both educational and inspiring.
